FIff unveils book on Iran film legend

The 36th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival has unveiled a new book on the late-great Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

Director of FIff Reza Mirkarimi as well as some international figures in the world cinema community attended the unveiling ceremony.

'An Alternative Cinema' is a collection of articles and interviews on the cinema of Abbas Kiarostami.

The book contains eight essays and articles about Kiarostami as well as three interviews with him.

Mirkarimi said, "All great artists have one special trait; I call it celestial self-centeredness. It is this particular trait that turns them into great explorers. They are too abrupt to tell others what’s going to happen."

Kiarostami has won many awards, including the Palme d'Or he grabbed at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’.

The late writer-director has been widely hailed as a pioneer of the Iranian New Wave.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.

The veteran Iranian filmmaker who passed away July 4, 2016 at the age of 76 was honored at several film events around the world.

The 36th FIff has been slated for April 19-27, 2018, in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
